The Kerry Rape & Sexual Abuse Centre was established in 1992 to provide a professional, confidential and free counselling service to all survivors of:
- Rape
- Date Rape
- Marital Rape
- Incest
- Child Sexual Abuse
- Sexual Assault
- Sexual Harassment
- All Forms of Sexual Violence
We believe that survivors of sexual violence and abuse have the right to be treated with respect and sensitivity.
We aim to provide a place of help and healing for survivors of rape & sexual abuse by offering care and support in a confidential environment.
Our main service is based in Tralee, but our outreach endeavours to meet the needs of victims and their families throughout the county by having a room available that meet our criteria for privacy in Killarney.
We Provide:
- Face to Face counselling
- Telephone counselling
- Support for family members and friends
- Support with Medical and Legal procedures
- Court Accompaniment
- Education and Awareness training
- Advocacy
The centre is open Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm but appointments are available outside of these hours. A lot of our clients are self-referrals but they can also be referred by many different sources.
Professionally qualified accredited counsellors are available to meet or speak with a client to answer any queries or concerns about counselling or any requests for information. You do not have to give your name, we will be happy to talk and to help if we can.
The Kerry Rape & Sexual Abuse Centre is an active member of Rape Crisis Network Ireland (RCNI). RCNI is a representative umbrella body who supports the work of member Rape Crisis Centres throughout Ireland and aims to influence national policy and social change through extensive data collection and by raising public awareness about the realities of sexual violence.
Counselling and Confidentiality
Everything that is said between the client and the counselor is treated in total confidence. Confidentiality will only be limited in exceptional circumstances, i.e. confidentiality will be limited if there is a concern regarding the sexual abuse of a minor (under 18 years). If confidentiality is to be limited it will be talked through with the client in advance.
